Infographics and flow charts are all the rage on the Internet. Colorful, complicated and convoluted, they’re as fun to explore as the maze books we used to drag our pencils through when we were kids. And now, they move.
For “How Do You Know,” the new romantic comedy from the pen of James L. Brooks and the studio of Sony, we devised an interactive flow chart — a kind of living “decision tree” — that invites users to explore whether or not they’re in love, in denial, in limbo or in trouble regarding a series of semi-serious and outright ridiculous situations. Only this flow chart actually flows, revealing more pieces of the path as the variables are narrowed down.
“Traditional flow chart images are passive,” Jetset Studios president Patrick Young noted. “Our decision tree engages the user with animation, sounds and by revealing the next step a piece at a time.”
